Has anyone used Travelocity to purchase a vacation package? Any positive or negative experiences using Travelocity?
Thanks,
Travelocity
I%26#39;ve used Travelocity once to book a trip to Oahu, but that was a few years ago. Ever since then I%26#39;ve used Expedia as I%26#39;ve found they have slightly better prices. I%26#39;ve never had a negative experience with either company. Some people have concerns that they will receive sub-standard service and/or rooms from the hotel simply because they have booked through a discount website like Expedia, but I have never experienced this. On the contrary, when I went to Maui last year I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to an ocean view room at the Sheraton. I%26#39;m sure Travelocity would be similar.
Travelocity
Thanks Sealbeachgirl,
I usually go through Expedia, however in this case, Travelocity has a much better price for the Grand Wailea than does Expedia. Thanks again for your input.
Travelocity is fine as long as nothing goes wrong. And if something goes wrong its usually on there end. Then the fun starts. Their customer service has to be the worst in the industry either by design or indifference. I had a maddening experience with them about ten years ago with airline tickets. My credit card finally refunded my money but I swore I would never use travelocity again. Unfortunately I saw an unbelievable deal on a hotel in Great Britain. I booked it over two months ago and got a confirmation immediately. Two days ago I got a phone call informing me there was a problem with my reservation. I was told they made a mistake and booked the wrong hotel in the wrong country. Now most of the rooms are gone at my destination because of a tennis tourney held there. I had booked a twin room with half board( two meals) at a four star hotel. They told me I could have a double room but no meal plan. Instead I could pay out of pocket for buffets (there is no mention of buffets on the hotels site)and submit them the bills after. I checked the hotels website and they were still offering twin rooms with meal packages, although for a higher price. I emailed travelocity CEO Michelle Peluso and was refered to their ';executive resolution center'; where I have to call them long distance----no 800 number! Sure enough I called and was put on hold at least five times. On top of everything their records had me booked into London- where I am not going! Maybe thats where the buffet is. At this point it is not resolved but I have serious doubts that these people know what they are doing or are capable of fixing the problem. Even a printed confirmation appears to be worthless. I am afraid to fly 3000 miles and arrive without a room.
PROS
I booked our Hawaii trip through my parents%26#39; AARP discount which also goes through Travelocity. I called them and the first Travelocity representative (Lisa) I spoke with was very helpful and found the best vacation deals. She even went out of her way to call the hotel/condo where we will be staying at to ask if they do anything special/discounts for birthdays. Instead of getting a one bedroom/one bathroom with two queen beds, the hotel manager upgraded our room to a two bedroom (one queen %26amp; two twin beds), two baths, with kitchen, living room and washer/dryer in unit for the same price. How awesome is that!
CONS
The second and third time I called Travelocity to add/make changes with the activities we signed up for, I could barely understand what the representatives tell me. I was on the phone for about an hour trying to explain to them changes I want and additional activities I would like to add with our package, and they just didn%26#39;t understand me. I called again, and got another representative. This time, the fourth person I spoke with understood me.
I also dislike the fees they charge you when making small changes to your vacation package such as adding additional activities. For example, I bought tickets for a sailing trip and snorkeling. I only bought two tickets in the beginning because I wasn%26#39;t sure if our other friends would like to join us. After a week, they%26#39;ve decided that they wanted to do the same activities with us. So then I went ahead and ordered more tickets through my Travelocity account and they charged me for buying additional tickets. I don%26#39;t understand why since the activities we bought tickets for were not included with the vacation packages we bought.
OVERALL
It’s better to make your reservations through the phone than online to make sure you’re getting what you want and what you’re paying for. It’s even better if the travel representative you speak with can communicate with you clearly, accommodates and understands your wants/needs. After all, you’re the one paying for the trip, not them.
From past posts on this forum you%26#39;ll probably be fine with one of these wholesalers IF you are not traveling in peak season, when every nook and cranny of a hotel is booked tight and all they have left is the room over the kitchen/bar/dumpster.
Negative here. Purchase vacation package to Aruba in 2005 and it was a freaking nightmare. After a some flight cancellations, our schedule got scewed up BAD (long story but it wasn%26#39;t thier fault, but the airlines).
The problem was that they have no authority to make any changes. They changed our days of travel and instead of direct flight (as originally booked) it was a 2 stop flight with a 6 hour layover at Miami. No thanks.
Travelocity couldn%26#39;t do anything. Couldn%26#39;t change my flights, couldn%26#39;t change my airlines, nothing. They wouldn%26#39;t even let me cancel the trip and re-book. After being transfered to manager after clueless manager, I gave up the phone approach. I googled the president and vice-presidents and sent everyone of them an email explaining my situation and how their customer service was totally unhelpful.
We%26#39;ll bygod if one of those VP%26#39;s didn%26#39;t call me in a few hours! He was every appoligetic and offered a full refund, but that it would take a while to process because they had to get thier money back from the airlines and hotel first before they would refund mine.
They did refund the money after about 45 days. Never again would I book a package trip from Travelocity...

I%26#39;m in the middle of booking my trip to Hawaii for 10 days coming from Detroit, and I%26#39;ve had better luck for prices separateing everthing out, and doing it myslef. A little extra work, but so far have saved over $1200. Good luck
We usually book our car rental through either Travelocity or Expedia. We are not fussy about cars so what ever we get is OK. The rest of the trip (which we are fussy about) we book on our own.
Aloha,
I have to agree with CATraveler77, I had a very hard time ';changing things';, just a date mind you, with the customer service. I lost my savings within the hour that it took me to try and communicate.
