Restaurant suggestions near the Waikoloa Marriott

I will be staying at the Marriott for one night in July (staying at condo for the rest of my trip to the Big Island.) My boyfriend and I are looking for any suggestions for a nice, romantic dinner for that night(preferrably with an ocean view.) Not too concerned with the price, more with the atmosphere and good food! We both love all types of cuisines. I%26#39;ve seen some good reveiws for the restaurants at the Fairmont Orchid and also at the Hilton - how are those? We will not have a car for that night so a place that we can either walk to from the Marriott or take a taxi is necessary.

This is my first trip to Hawaii - I am SO EXCITED!!!!!! Thus the ealry suggestion request for a dinner in July :)

Thanks! Happy travels to all....

Restaurant suggestions near the Waikoloa Marriott

I loved Brown%26#39;s Beach House at the Fairmont Orchid. When you call ask for an ocean front table. The food and service was also very good. Very romantic. We also had dinner at the Canoe House at the Mauna Lani resort, and found it to be a little shy of the Beach House in terms of food quality and atmosphere, although it was pretty much exactly the same price. (Around 28 dollars per entree as I recollect last January).

I also had dinner at the Kamuela Provision Company in the Waikoloa Hilton and really enjoyed it. It was a little cheaper than the Beach House/Canoe House, but had a great atmosphere and good food. Again, ask to be seated outside on the patio by the ocean. Beautiful tikis everywhere and yummy lava flows!

Restaurant suggestions near the Waikoloa Marriott

Meeks924,

Your first trip!!! That is exciting!

My top choice would be Pahui`a at the 4S to the south of Waikoloa. Superb dining experience, excellent food beautiful setting.

Brown’s Beach House is very nice also, and would be closer to the Marriott.

The Canoe House at the Mauna Lani is another option as well.

For your requirements and desires, I would not suggest any of the restaurants at the Hilton, with the possible exception of the KPC. But I think with other better choices, I would recommend any of the above listed 3 over the KPC.

Good luck and happy travels!

Aloha,

Donatoni%26#39;s at the Hilton is very nice and you could walk there.

If $ was no object I would go the the Fairmont Orchid and consider

The CanoeHouse Restaurant; Mauna Lani Bay

The setting in amazing.

The food is excellent

We went on our anniversary and I had the grilled %26#39;ono with mac-nut curry sauce. I wish I could have licked the plate ;o)

Sunset was beautiful, service was excellent,

Thank you EVERYONE for your suggestions - SPEEDY suggestions, I must add! As the Canoe house was mentioned by all, I%26#39;ll choose that as my top pick.

P.s. from the Marriott to the Fairmont - approx how long is the trip and how much for a taxi?

Thank you again!

I hope you all have an amazing trip. Your boyfriend must be so awesome!

Hi, Canoe House is at the Mauna Lani and Brown%26#39;s is at the Fairmont Orchid. Both are in the Mauna Lani Resort, the next resort complex north of the Waikoloa Resort. Once you get to the highway, it is about 5-10 minutes to the Mauna Lani Resort entrance and then another 5 minutes or so to either of the hotels.

It%26#39;s not far but not practical to walk. Cabs are expensive, but really the only option.

In my opinion, both restaurtants are very good (we like Brown%26#39;s better).

not to purposefully throw in a monkeywrench, but I wouldn%26#39;t pick the Canoe House. Brown%26#39;s is nicer for the same money.

In your situation, being without a car, I personally would go eat at Kamuela Provisions because the Hilton is so close to the Marriott. Request outdoor seating; the ambience is very good, right on the water. The Hilton is also an entertaining place to walk around after dinner, more so than either the Mauna Lani or the Fairmont.

I%26#39;m not the Hilton%26#39;s biggest fan, and I think it%26#39;s uncomfortably hot in July during the day, but one thing it does really well is provide nice walkways for romantic evening strolling. The air is balmy at night, there%26#39;s a lot to see, and there is never the feeling you don%26#39;t belong because it%26#39;s so large.

I would go dine at Brown%26#39;s after renting a car.

I%26#39;ve only eaten at the Canoe House once. I found it very pretentious and neither of us much liked our dinner. Thus the ';only once.'; At Brown%26#39;s they make you feel comfortable.

Doh, KK beat me to it.

For the record, I wasn%26#39;t suggesting Canoe House over Brown%26#39;s. I would also choose Brown%26#39;s over Canoe House, and Pahui%26#39;a over both any time, any day and twice on Sunday.

Good luck and happy travels!

Here%26#39;s my .02 ranking the restaurants others have suggested:

KPC at Hilton...lovely setting, get a table as close to the ocean as possible. Food is good, I%26#39;m partial to the salmon and my husband vouches for the lamb.

Canoe House at the Mauna Lani....another lovely setting but a little further back from the ocean. More expensive than Hilton. Last time I checked their menu it relied heavily on seafood. I didn%26#39;t think the food measured up to the setting here.

Brown%26#39;s Beach House at the Fairmont....probably our favorite. Wonderful service, singer %26amp; hula dancer adding to the ambiance, good menu selections. Slightly closer to the ocean than the Canoe House.

Pahu I%26#39;a at 4 Seasons...any closer to the ocean and you%26#39;d be in it. Very good food at a hefty price. We%26#39;ve had great service and not-so-great.

You can%26#39;t go wrong with any of these. If you will have a car for the remainder of your trip then go to the Hilton for the one night and on a subsequent evening go to one of the other restaurants.

Enjoy your trip....

THANK you EVERYONE for your imput! I am so excited for this trip. And these forums are the most incredible resource - I love them!
