Hello. My husband and I will be visiting Hawaii from August 29-September 12, 2007. We%26#39;re spending five days in Oahu (visiting friends), five days in Kauai and five days in Maui. I%26#39;ve been able to plan itineraries for both Oahu and Kauai, but I%26#39;m stuck figuring out how to spend our time in Maui. I would like to spend two nights in Hana but I%26#39;m not sure if I should do that first, or last during my trip. There%26#39;s so much to see and do in Maui and since we%26#39;re not going to be there very long, I wanted to be sure to make the best use of our time. Any help someone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! Summer

Aloha,
If Maui is your last island stop I would do Hana first and the ';rest'; last. I assume you will be driving? It is a drive I will never forget, for the beauty as well as the stress ;o) Well worth it. I just think it will be nice to have some easier travel about the island before you head back to the mainland.
have a great vacation!

I might consider only one night in Hana and then you will only have three days to see the rest of the island. That would be one day upcountry and Haleakala, a second for West side and a third for South. On the day you leave, depending on how early you can check out something you haven%26#39;t already seen , like Iao Needle.
Aloha Adeline and shantybob,
Thank you so much for your advice! Maybe one night is all we need then. That sounds like a plan. But would you stay somewhere different on each part of the island (upcountry, west and south) or is there a central location where we might be able to stay? I%26#39;m not sure how far apart everything is.
Thanks again! :)

What kind of budget are you on? It makes a difference in where you might want to stay. We love the Kaanapali area and the Sheraton. If you are looking for a nice place a bit less expensive, try the Mahana just north of Black rock. Most of the condos rent for 5 days, so you might want to just stay there and do a Hana drive one day this trip. We enjoy just relaxing, watching the sunset over a good meal, and sightseeing. Go to Lahaina one day or evening for entertainment , waterfront dining and shopping. Paia is a ';hippy'; type, artsy town on the way to Hana. The Garden of Eden is about halfway to Hana. Iao Valley is nice and would fit in with Paia. Many people spend their time just playing in the water or snorkeling and laying on the beach.
I%26#39;m sorry, I thought you already had a place to stay after Hana. Is Maui your last stop? Is budget all important in selection? Most condos want you for a week. Are you thinking a resort hotel ? Maybe a B%26amp;B?
