Watching the cruise ships come and go

When we were in Vancouver pre and post cruise we loved watching the ships come and leave the port. We were actually able to see them come in from our window as we had harbourview room and in the afternoon we went to Stanley Park and saw them leave.

I wonder where we could do that in Honolulu.

Is there any place we can walk to watch the ships come and go?

Any reasonable hotels with harbour view yet close to the Waikiki beach ?

the ships dock near aloha tower, do not know of any hotels near by. They get the regular lines plus the long trip ships will stop, we saw the QE2 on a recent trip. At night on their first night out the ships sit off waikiki for a while and are quite a sight with all the lights.

The best place to watch the ships (cruise and cargo) come into Honolulu Harbor is from the outdoor seating area at the Gordon Biersch brew pub restaurant in the Aloha Tower Marketplace. A truly scenic location with great beers, pretty good food, fun people and live music some nights. Actually, the entire harborfrontage of the Marketplace is a nice place to see ships moving about.

Waikiki is several miles removed from Honolulu Harbor, so there are no overlooking hotels. However, the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor sits at one end of Waikiki and is home to hundreds of recreational and racing craft. So if you don%26#39;t mind looking at smaller boats moving around it is a great alternative.

The Hawaii Prince Waikiki and Ilikai overlook the yacht harbor and offer excellent views from the guest rooms across the marina and channel, Ala Moana Beach Park, towards Honolulu Harbor, the airport and the Ewa plain.

If you just want to hang out while watching the marina activity, and have a few drinks, some great pupus and meals, live music, and an incredible crowd, visit The Charthouse restaurant right on the marina. See:

And, if you go there make sure to check-out The Harbor Pub right below The Charthouse, its a really fun place with happy hours, drink specials, an unbelievable mix of folks, and excellent pizza. See:

However, ships and boats cross the ocean just off-shore of Waikiki in an almost endless procession (cargo, fishing, pleasure, tours, dinner/booze, military, cruise lines, etc.), so any hotel room with a good beach view will offer such a panorama.
