Drums of Paradise and other luau's Question... please help!

Hello, We are a family of 8 randing from 10-60 years in age and will be staying at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for 5 nights in two weeks! :-) I have read review after review on the Luaus in Kauai and I am not sure from what I have read that we would like the Smith%26#39;s luau, plus since we are staying at the Hyatt it just seems so convenient. My question is does anyone know if the Hyatt does the imu (I think that%26#39;s what it%26#39;s called) ceremony where they unearth the pig? We think that is kind of important to get Luau feeling and experience and that could make me choose a different Luau.

When we attended the Hyatt Luau, they did not have the imu ceremony.....the food was already layed out, maitais were being served and the presentation began.

With your large group, just to make it easy, you might just attend the Hyatt luau, and enjoy. Thrs. and Sunday only.

The Sheraton does not have the imu ceremony. Smiths may have a part of it.

We have seen the imu ceremony, with a phenominal polynesian group, a few times, and it was interesting, but not the major deal.

The aloha, and friendship, and fun, and dancing to the band, then the actual food and meeting new people, and of course the production itself was spectacular. lots of smiles and good feelings and hugs.

Actually , this group put on a phenominal event. Probably the best, and most heartfelt, filled with aloha, luaus, that we have ever attended. Actually, we went to about four or five of their presentations, as they would change the major theme, in addtion to the pacific rim dances and music. Sorry, it was not here on Kauai.

Perhaps, another poster has an idea where you can find the complete imu ceremony, and can help you out.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I work at the Hyatt and while I don%26#39;t work at the lu%26#39;au, I%26#39;ve been around them on the property there.

I don%26#39;t believe that they do the imu ceremony -- I%26#39;ve never seen anything like that -- the food is already laid out buffet style.

If that is something important to you I%26#39;d try one of the others --

I highly recommend Smith%26#39;s Lu%26#39;au -- run by the same local family for 40 something years now -- as authentic as it gets for a commercial lu%26#39;au.

Malama Pono,

Janet
