So, like dummies, we waited til the last possible minute to book our flight. There is a group of seven going to Maui. Anyway, we booked our flight through airtohawaii because they had the best deal going anywhere.
When we got our confirmation it said our seats could not be assigned until check in. But it gave us a Hawaiian Air confirmation number. So, I call Hawaiian and asked and they said when they get full, this is thier policy.
Okay. Has anyone had this happen? I don%26#39;t care if all 7 of us sit together. However, I am flying over with my daughter, who is eight. My sister is traveling with her son who is eight as well. I just want to know whether we can have a reasonable expectation of sitting next to my child.
Any thoughts??? Or experience with this situation?
Question about Hawaiian AirI assume you%26#39;re going through HNL. Hawaiian flies 767%26#39;s from the mainland, which have a 2-3-2 seating arrangement, often leaving a lot of middle seats. SO it shouldn%26#39;t be too hard for them to find you an aisle seat to go with the middle seat. At least they%26#39;ll ask other passengers to change seats with you to allow you to be next to a youngster. There%26#39;s no chance you%26#39;ll be separated.
I%26#39;ve flown HA for years and never had a problem with them, except that sometimes they leave a little too early.
Question about Hawaiian AirThanks. But it%26#39;s actually a direct flight from PDX to OGG, no stops in HNL.
They probably fly a 757 or 767 from the mainland to anywhere ...
They will probably require you to sit with your kid so they%26#39;ll work it out. There are likely front row seats (bulkhead) still blocked off for airport assignment anyway, so with any luck you%26#39;ll get one of those.
Hawaiian Air often does not provide seat assignments to last minute passengers, and it can be frustrating, but in the numerous times it has happened to me, I have always been accomodated on the flight.
Two things you may try:
1. Go to the Hawaiianair.com website, and see if you can access your reservation and add a seat asssignment. (Chance of success maybe 1 in 25).
2. You can check-in for your flight on-line within 24 hours of departure, again using your confirmation number, and try it a few times. On occasion they will release seats in that last day (sometimes with just a few hours before leaving) and it will allow a seat assignment. (chance of success 1 in 5).
But you will most likely have to wait in line at the airport. In which case you might want to use a skycap, who can often check you in faster if you have a print-out of your itenerary; or go up to the special line for web check-in and say you tried but it didn%26#39;t work so here you are...
Lisa I%26#39;ve been on many flights where parents and kids were indeed separated, even very small kids. I%26#39;m sure you will be able to get a passenger to switch with you....
I%26#39;d do everything in your power beforehand to remedy it, but if all fails look helpless and tell the kids to be whiney and act like they are going to throw up and I%26#39;m betting someone will switch seats with you.....
I flew Hawaiian from San Diego to Maui last year with 2 children. Same thing - no assigned seats. But when we got there, we got a bulk head. I think they reserve some of the seats for this type of thing. No problem sitting together at all - and our flight was completely full.
Since then, I%26#39;ve flown on a lot of airlines (business trips) where I couldn%26#39;t reserve a seat - or got assigned a middle seat. Now I always wait to check in at the airport kiosk - and I always get a better seat - usually an aisle near the front (which is my preference).
You%26#39;ll be fine.
Exact thing happened to us, we said that we wanted to sit with our kids but since it was full they put in a ';request'; and we will be assigned seats when we get to the airport. Whatever that means, don%26#39;t worry they will work it our for you.
We had this happen on our last trip to Hawaii but with a different airline. I was concerned about being near my daughter as well. We made sure we checked in relatively early and all 3 of us got seats together.
One other time we didn%26#39;t have assigned seats and I called back the airline a few times and eventually they gave me seats. Odd.
we always fly Hawaiian, They will try to seat you with your child even if it means asking someone to change seats. Don%26#39;t worry.
Thanks guys! I feel better now. I dogged everyone to book alot sooner, but no one listened to me. So I will rest a little easier.
