The wedding day is almost here, and after that we will be headed to Maui for our first time ever!
We%26#39;re staying at the Hyatt, and while we%26#39;re there we are doing the Old Lahaina Luau, a sunset cruise, and snorkeling. What are some ';must dos'; in our week there? Things to see, places to eat? I can%26#39;t wait to go and I%26#39;m looking forward to hearing what people suggest!
First Maui trip in 11 days!
Congrats! We honeymooned in Maui in 2004, and are going back for the third time in August. We also stayed at the Hyatt on our honeymoon, it%26#39;s a great hotel.
Definitely walk down Kaanapali beach and snorkel at Black Rock. We also really liked taking a snorkeling cruise to Molokini.
For restaurants, try:
Cheeseburger in Paradise
Hula Grill
I%26#39;o
Pacific%26#39;O
Nick%26#39;s Fishmarket
Mama%26#39;s Fish House
Bubba Gump
First Maui trip in 11 days!
Going back for the 3rd time already? It must be that good!! Do you have any feedback about the Hyatt? Where are you staying next time you go? Did you do any of the romantic twilight dinners or sunset cruises??
Congrats. to you both...
You will be starting your new life off in a place that is magical... may your visit to the islands bring you many wonderful memories.
Suggestions:
-Sunrise/sunset on Haleakala, explore upcountry (Makawao, Tedeshi Winery) Maybe do a bike tour
-Drive to Hana (one day trip) or at least visit Iao Valley...
-Walk through Lahaina Towne... history, shops and restaurants...
-If you like live theatre, see ';Ulalena'; in Lahaina.
-Snorkel, snorkel, snorkel... Black Rock, Kapalua Bay, Honolua Bay, Ahihi Reserve.
-Restaurants to try:
Mama%26#39;s Fish House outside of Paia
Kimo%26#39;s in Lahaina
Polli%26#39;s in Makawao (great seafood burrito)
I%26#39;o in Lahaina
Roy%26#39;s in Kahana or Kihei... choose an island fish
(if you have eaten at a Bubba Gump%26#39;s before, I would pass on it... It is a restaurant chain)
Finally, take time at the end of each day to enjoy the sunset... talk about your day with one another.... and have a great time!!!
You HAVE to have at least lunch at Honokowai Okazuya deli.
It%26#39;s about a 10 minute drive from the Hyatt and the food is EXCELLANT! and inexpensive.
When you get tired of paying 40 bucks an entree, this place will be a welcome change. Get the mahi mahi or ono in a lemon caper sauce...to DIE for and I think it%26#39;s around $14.00.
The Chili cilantro salmon is also a winner as well as the terriyaki steak, which is cooked to order.
FABULOUS food for not a whole lot of money.
A small suggestion: I suggest you stop by there one day while you%26#39;re out and about and get a menu. Lines can be long here, so if you have a menu ahead of time, you can take your time deciding what you want, then call it in to avoid having to wait outside for half an hour.
Don%26#39;t waste your time on the sandwiches or italian food, try the above suggestions. you won%26#39;t be sorry!
Also Moose Macgillycuddys on Front street has a decent breakfast. HUGE Bloody Marys and eggs benedict. YUM!
We just returned after 7 days on Maui and found a really neat thing. There%26#39;s a place near the Ocean Center that rents GPS devices that have audio tours of the Road to Hana and Haleakala. I think it was called Geo Trek. We went on both tours and also just used it to find the places we wanted to visit . Super handy in finding all the best spots. I%26#39;d highly recommend it.
haleakala for sure...but don%26#39;t get too hung up on the sunrise/sunset thing.....it%26#39;s good ANY time of day! and if you go during the day,,,its less crowded %26amp; you get to see the view coming %26amp; going. which is spectacular. it%26#39;s good whenever you do it.
we did a downhill bicycle thing which was lovely...and once we drove up in a rental car with friends...both were great.
My husband and I went last year for our honeymoon and it was amazing! Some suggestions...
Before you begin, get the blue book called Maui Revealed!!
It is a must! There is so much hidden beauty to discover!
·Watch the sunset at Haleakalea
·Take a horseback ride into the crater of the volcano. Trust me, easier than the bike! The bikes looked very scary! Pony Express is the company.
·Snorkeling trip! Depending on water conditions they might not be able to drop you into the middle of the ocean!
·Golf-The Ritz Carlton, Plantation
·Drive as far to Hana as you can! We only made it to Mama’s Fish House! Too tired!
Restaurants...
Nick’s Fish Market
David Paul’s Lahaina Grill
Sansei
Ma’La (on the ocean, a local place in Lahaina, away from the crowds)YUMMY!
