My husband and I will be visiting Maui in August. We would like to drive the road to Hana. We will be staying in Napili. Do we necessarily have to return to Napili via the same route or is there another road that is reasonably drivable (for more sightseeing) on our return?
I am assuming the route to Hana is thru Haiku, Huelo, etc.
This is our first trip to Hawaii. We do realize this a day-long event.
Thanks for any tips for experiencing a wonderful day trip!
Road to Hana
I think you end up going and coming back the same route. You can%26#39;t drive around the south end any more since the earthquake.
Road to Hana
Correct... you%26#39;ll have to back track.
One way to Hana and the same way back...
The only way to alter your return route in to continue through Kahului to Wailuku and perhaps return to Napili by the northern route, past Kahakuloa. The road is curvy and you will be on the ocean side of the road, so BE CAREFUL!!! Someone drove off the road and 140 ft down into the ocean a few weeks ago.
When are you going? Napili has a nice little shopping center there and you simply MUST eat at Maui Tacos! It%26#39;s also very fun to walk in the grocery store barefoot - it%26#39;s the only way to go! I%26#39;ve driven the road to Hana five times. Be sure to rent the GPS audio tour of the Road to Hana. We did the road before and used the CD, but the GPS version was much better. They%26#39;ve even got a tour of Haleakala. We found coupons in the tourist mags.
