Cheap accomm in kailua/kona!!

G%26#39;day!

Staying 6 days on BI, most of it in Kurtistown. However my friend and I (both 19, uni students) are planning on driving to Kona area and staying a night or two.

We are seeking somewhere cheap but clean. We will have a car so it doesn%26#39;t matter if it isn%26#39;t 100% ideally located. We just need 2 single beds and somewhere to park a car.

Please help. We leave for Bi on the 9th of Feb. How many nights- one or two, and where??

Also where can you camp near Kailua/Kona??

help!!! pleeeeease!?

thank you!

beth

Cheap accomm in kailua/kona!!

Beth, you are coming to the world%26#39;s one of the best known resort destinations. Nothing is cheap here. The lowest priced hotel in Kona is Uncle Billy%26#39;s and the Kona Seaside Hotel, followed by the King Kamehameha Hotel and Royal Kona Resort. About 30 minutes South from Kona (if there is no traffic) is the Hotel Manago. You can check the reviews of them on TA.

Here%26#39;s some info on camping. ehawaii.gov/Hawaii_County/鈥amp.cgi

the camping is 30 miles and 1.5 hours south of Kona it requires a permit you get in Hilo. The place is called Hookena and it is reached by a narrow one lane road thar descends 2000 in steep switchbacks. There is a beat up restroom, cold outdoor showers and it looks like a dump. last time I was there the only people there were homeless and druggies... it is both remote and dangerous. Only camping in the national park better All our state sites are pretty bad and the dreggs of life hangs out in them. It is very sad but it is reality that Hawaii does not keep its parks up.

Steer clear of Uncle Billies whatever you do

You might try the littel Tiki Hotel in Kona about 80 a night. Nothing is going to be really under $100 a night by the time you add the 11-12 % hotel tax. Un like other places our prices DO Not include tax so it will be extra Also we tip 10 to 20 % on restraunts and services. I know this is a lot more than I found in Austraila and in talking to others in OZ buts its a very real consideration ...

right...

thank you for the info.

so i guess camping is out! and uncle billy%26#39;s too.

i%26#39;ll have a look at the ones you suggested.

how long do you suggest is needed in/around kona?

cheeers!!

Beth, I read about a place called, I think Pineapple Park on the south Kona coast. My husband and I are also going to the BI n February. 3rd through the 20th. And we are in our 40%26#39;s. But if we were younger we would definitely stay there. Lots of ';hang loose Europeans and younger travelers'; according to my oracle. The website is www.pineapple-park.com. We are planning many of the same activities as you, but we%26#39;ll be spending 2 nights at Volcano village, 10 days in Kona and 5 nights in Kapoho. So far anyway. Maybe we%26#39;ll run into you!

Kona Seaside gets my vote - I have also stayed at Royal Kona several times, but for the price, Kona Seaside. Parking IS an issue, park early and walk is my advice.

Good luck and happy travels!

blh59- maybe we will run into you! haha! are you coming over to hilo? ill be staying in kurtistown, which is just S/W of Hilo in the district of Puna. My friend designs houses there, so my aussie friend and i will be staying in one of them. we%26#39;re V excited!

and yup, i read about pineapple park! thank you! the only thing is, for the cheap rooms, girls and guys have separate dorms... I%26#39;m not a ';couple'; with my friend, but i would like to stay in the same room!

lol

catchyou round!

Beth, we will be coming to Hilo, in fact, we%26#39;re flying into and out of Hilo! As I said in my other post we%26#39;re staying in Kona for 10 days then have 7 days to do what ever else we want. I%26#39;m gambling because I haven%26#39;t made any reservations yet for the last 7 days. We want to spend a couple days in Volcano and the last 5 in Kapoho (we thought). When do you leave? Maybe we will run into you guys. We%26#39;ll be in Volcano the 13 and 14th. I hope you have an incredible trip. I hope we do too! We went to Oahu a year ago and it was disastrous. Jackhammers right over our head every morning, Some guy staring in our bedroom window almost every morning from 0750 on (alledgedly painting). Torrential rain, roads washed out, etc. In spite of it all, we fell in love with Hawaii. The closer it gets the more excited I get.

blh59-

did you check out the other post of yours called ';february trip';? i wrote some neat ideas for you when you%26#39;re down in puna :)

we should catch up for lunch or something. Completely up to you, though. I don%26#39;t want to inconveneience you%26#39;re trip at all!! Sure I%26#39;ll only be 19 (my uni friend too) and my Hawaiian friend will be 30, his girlfriend a little younger i think, but perhaps we could pre arrange something- lunch/tea in Pahoa- perhaps Paolo%26#39;s Bistro- good Italian food.

just an idea! i%26#39;ve never met anyone from alaska, but one of my fave bands comes from there! haha

and that%26#39;s a dang about your last oahu trip... i%26#39;ll be staying there for 3 nights from feb 16-19 in waikiki- ResortQuest Waikiki Beach is our hotel- alittle more than we hoped to pay, but it seems very good for its price! Keen to check out the arizona memorial and do some snorkelling.

talk more soon. my email is biglifeout_mag@hotmail.com if you%26#39;d like to contact me there!

no worries!

byebye

Beth, lunch would be fantastic. I would love to meet up with you guys. I%26#39;m not 19, but I used to be, and my husband still acts like he is! And I bet I know the band you mean. You arrive the 9th and we%26#39;ll be in Kona until the 13th. On the 13 we move to Volcano and stay until the 15. On the 15th our plans are still up in the air. So when do you intend to go to Hilo? I wish you were going to be there for the Chinese New Year on the 16th and 17th. That sound like a really good time. Anyway, I guess between your schedule and ours Volcano or Hilo would be best. We%26#39;re staying in Lehua lodge cottage in Volcano on the 13th and 14th. How are your Kona plans coming along? I%26#39;m excited to death! Bambi
