which hotel has better beach in Kaanapali

I finally decided that we would stay in the Kaanapali-Lahaina area for our vacation in late July. Now I just have to decide which hotel. I have baciscally narrowed it down to the Hyatt, Westin or the Sheraton. All have both positive and negative reviews. But one of the factors that would help is which hotel has the better part of the beach in front. I know ther is snorkeling south of black rock, how far south? I want to be able to swim in the water, snorkel in the water, but have some shade on the beach, Any of these hotels offer all three? And how far is it from one of the hotels to the next? Any help, and your opinions, woluld help alot.

By the way, we are two couples, active 50%26#39;s, and no kids.

Between the hotels you listed, the Sheraton is by far the winner for best location. Beautiful, large beach for all to enjoy. The Westin is just on the other side of Whalers Village from Sheraton. Nice beach too. The Hyatt doesn%26#39;t have a very good swimmable beach at the hotel, but you can walk just to the side and get to a swimmable area. If I were you, I%26#39;d stay at the Sheraton. There is great snorkeling right at Black Rock which is where the Sheraton is located. As far as shade is concerned, you can rent cabannas that have pull down coverage for 1/2 your body, but I can%26#39;t remember any shade trees per se. Kids will be at any location you stay, but Sept, Oct and May are terrific travel times to Hawaii with fewer kids, if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re looking for. Good luck. Oh, many posters here report getting the Sheraton at very good prices on Hotwire and Priceline. And if you aren%26#39;t a member already, join the Starwood Preferred FF club (can%26#39;t remember the exact name), that could get you a discount and/or upgrade.

rockc,

The beach is the widest at Black Rock (Sheraton) and gets more narrow the farther towards Hyatt and Westin.

If you consider a condo, the Whaler is just about 2 resorts from Black Rock and would be great for two couples. The beach in front is quiet, wide and pretty. There were not too many kids around in November.

Hope this helps.

The Sheraton by far! The pool(s) are very relaxing and the pool bar is oceanfront. It is not crowded around the pools like the others. Rent a double beach chaise (with cover) at the Sheraton for something special. The kids go to the Westin for the kids club from the Sheraton.

Your like me. Beach person. Sheraton for sure. The Hyatt beach can be so narrow sometimes it%26#39;s nonexistant.

I also agree with the Sheraton. Lots of space on the beach (Great snorkeling, too!) and by the pool there are a lot of empty chairs. We never had a problem getting a chair by the pool.

I agree, Sheraton for a hotel and The Whaler for a condo. They are almost next door to one another. The beach in front of both of these is awesome! If the pool is important to you, go with the Sheraton. If the size of you accomodations is important, try The Whaler. Good Luck!

We have stayed at the Westin and loved the location, (right next to restaurants and shopping at Whaler%26#39;s Village) but the Sheraton would be great with it%26#39;s huge grassy lawn, trees, pool and big beach right at black rock for snorkeling. I believe there is now a complimentary shuttle that will stop at the Sheraton and take you to Whaler%26#39;s Village, the 2 Westin resorts and locations in Lahaina---very convenient. You can%26#39;t go wrong with the Sheraton. There is also a cliff diver ceremony from black rock every evening right in front of the Sheraton. Have fun! We are staying at the Westin Kaanapali Resort Villas in March!
