In January 2007 we went on a 3 hour snorkelling tour with Kauai Sea Rider Adventures. They came highly recommended by Snorkel Bob%26#39;s. We were disappointed.
The trip started out well. The trip left from Kukuiula Harbour near the Spouting Horn in Poipu. Although Captain Tara Leota (the marine biologist featured in their advertising) did not go on the trip, the three local Hawaiian lads that ran the trip were great - friendly, funny, and helpful.
The first leg of the tour, snorkelling on the offshore side of a reef, was great. We spent a long time in the water and there were lots of fish to see.
On the second leg of the tour, we were supposed to swim with sea turtles. When we arrived at the site, there were a number of turtles on the surface. But the crew spent a good 15 minutes going around in circles trying to find the underwater buoy to tie up to, and by the time they found it, all the turtles had dove to the bottom. We got in the water, but it was a waste of time. All the turtles were gone and the water was too deep to see anything.
On the third leg of the tour, we were supposed to see whales and dolphins. We drove down the coast for a long time, but didn%26#39;t see anything. Another waste of time.
On the last leg of the tour, we stopped for lunch at Lawai Kai Bay. The brochure says that you can relax on the beach. We anchored offshore instead in the swells and ate lunch. One of the paying customers got seasick, so we went home. We arrived about 15 minutes short of the promised 3 hours.
The brochure also says that you will get a free underwater photo of the trip. It wasn%26#39;t taken or even offered.
Don%26#39;t get me wrong - the first leg of the tour was worth the money. But they fell short on the rest of what was promised.

Guess the ';cue the wild sea creatures'; didn%26#39;t work so well. We never go on these trips depending on seeing the animals and you did get to see the turtles, if not swim with them. Was the scenery nice?
