I%26#39;m trying to decide which Island to go to in November...can I get some suggestions please :)
We will be going for 5-7 days
We like water sports (surfing)
We are into photography
We%26#39;re more of a budget traveller
Thanks.
Oahu or Maui??I love Maui!
Oahu or Maui??We were to both about a month ago. We enjoyed them both for different reasons. Just my opinions:
Oahu - I think this island is more beautiful than Maui, more so once you get outside of Honolulu/Waikiki. Many will disagree with me. If we go back, we would stay on the North Shore or Kailua/Lanikai. Great beaches.
Maui - More resort-like, I didn%26#39;t feel like I was in Hawaii. Nice beaches, lots of beachside dining/drinking. More places to snorkel during winter months. Loved the town of Lahaina.
Budget traveling - We stayed in a condo on Maui, bought breakfast items, water, beer, and blended drink ingredients. We rented a car, it was less expensive than paying for tours and we saw much more. For lunches, we usually shared appetizers instead of ordering entrees. We found good inexpensive burger joints and take-out joints on both islands. Splurged a little on dinners. You CAN go to Hawaii on a budget!
You will love either one you choose.
Another question I have is:
Is one Island generally more rainy than another?
It *seems* that Oahu has nicer looking beaches than Maui, just from photos I%26#39;ve compared... is that true?
You can%26#39;t go wrong with either.
I prefer Oahu becaude there is much more to see %26amp; do.
Oahu is generally less expensive than Maui.

So can I generally surf in both places, or is one better than the other (I%26#39;m not a pro surfer...still a beginner)
What about photography... which places are nicer to photograph (sites, beaches, sunsets, etc)
You can surf at both places. The surf seems to be higher on Oahu, much higher on the North Shore, where the pros surf. Lots of beginners at Waikiki. I didn%26#39;t see as much surfing on Maui.
I think the beaches and water are much prettier on Oahu. And the mountains and valleys are so green! On Maui - Road to Hana has lots of waterfalls and the Pipiwai Trail with it%26#39;s bamboo forest and awesome 400 ft waterfall at the end. All great photo opps.
Sunset is beautiful from Waikiki beach. Also great from Lahaina on Maui. You can see sunrise from Haleakala Crater on Maui. We tried, but the weather didn%26#39;t cooperate. We were socked in with clouds and pouring rain. But from other photos I%26#39;ve seen, it%26#39;s amazing.
Hmm.. tough decision...but I think Oahu would be a better choice?!?!
Totally agree with you Wendie! Both islands are great, but there%26#39;s SO much more to see and do on Oahu. I%26#39;m assuming this is your first time? I always recommend first-timers to go to Oahu. And the choices of good places to eat are ENDLESS on Oahu! If you do go to Oahu, don%26#39;t be like a lot of toursits and just stay in Waikiki/Honolulu. Be sure to venture outside of Waikiki/Honolulu so you can appreciate the beauty of the whole island.
Thank you
I have been to Hawaii but I was only 6
I think we%26#39;ll plan our trip to Oahu :)
IMO the most photogenic island is Kauai.
