';A Walk to the Beach'; Vacation Rental

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience booking with www.oahu-hawaii-vacation.com, specifically the ';A Walk to the Beach'; rental house in Kailua.

I am looking to stay there with my family in December and would like feedback on the area, the beach, etc.

Also any insight into Waimanalo would be appreciated -- we are trying to decide between a vacation rental there or in Kailua.

Thanks!

SM

';A Walk to the Beach'; Vacation Rental

I suggest you call and talk to the owner. Ask for references. Ask about amenities. Exactly how far is the walk from the beach. What amenities are important to you? Private rentals vary in rate, amenities and distance from the beach.

My visitors stay in private rentals ,as I do not have enough room. They never have been disappointed with the rentals. They use the web. Try Cyber Rentals, Great Rentals, and VRBO.

Kailua is a small little resort town with a lot of Aloha for our visitors. Just rated the second hottest U.S. destination.

Waimanalo is a smaller community and very friendly. More a local flavor. There is a couple of groceriey stores. A local farmer sells fresh picked corn by the side of the highway. A few fast food places to eat.

Kailua is about 20 minutes away. Depending on the time of day. Kailua has the most variety of shopping. More mainland type of grocery shopping and a few gift stores.

We look forward to your visit. Aloha!

Thank you for your responses. I just wanted to say that I have read extensively about the illegal vacation rentals in Kailua and hope that this dicussion will not revolve around that issue.

A few more questions...

How far is Kailua from the North Shore and from Waikiki?

Again, has anyone ever rented from Ingrid at www.oahu-hawaii-vacation.com?

What are your absolute top recommendations or ';must sees'; in Kailua, Waikiki and the North Shore? Both active and non-active activities would work.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The North Shore is about a 1 to 1 ½ hours away from Kailua. You have two ways to get there. You can drive up the East side to Kahuku or you can take H3 to the West side and head toward Haleiwa. Waikiki is about 45 minutes away from Kailua. Keep in mind, traffic on Oahu can be very bad during rush hours and your travel times could double.

I know Ingrid and she is very professional. She has some very top listings and she has represented many rentals for a number of years. Waikiki is about 30 minutes drive from Kailua. The North Shore can take up to an hour. It all depends on the time of day. Up untl 8:30 AM and after 3:00 PM weekdays the highways can be busy.

The airport is about 30 minutes away from Kailua.

Both beaches are restful. Both are located in a perfect area to travel North or into Waikiki when you want activity but then you have the option to return to the peaceful life.

The activites are too many for me to list. Go to the web and look under Oahu%26#39;s Visitors information. Many people return to the mainland worn out. It is better to plan your schedule a head so you can allow yourself to stop and relax. You can always return as so many tourists do. One trip is never enough of ';Paradise';.

Aloha!

I have never rented a vacation rental from www.oahu-hawaii-vacation.com and I will not comment about their ownership.

As far as “must sees” in Kailua, that’s a very subjective question. There is the beach, the Mokulua Islands, the Kawainui Marshland, Mount Olomana, and a few public parks. We have one public pool, a public library and a recreation center with a gymnasium.

Downtown Kailua is a small commercial district with a Starbucks, Macy’s, Longs, Safeway and an assorted local retail stores. We have two public high schools, one public intermediate school and I believe 10 public/charter elementary schools. We also have approximately 38 churches in our community.

Maybe I can be of help with activity information if I know the number in your party. If you are traveling with children? If yes, their ages? Are you looking to participate in water sports? If yes, what kind?

Is this your first trip to the Islands. How long will you be staying.

Aloha!

Sudoku,

Thanks for your offer to help. Right now we are still a little worried about the rental house and it%26#39;s exact location and proximity to the beach, etc. We have contacted Ingrid with some questions and are awaiting a response. We have to remind ourselves that you are 4 or 5 hours behind us here in Chicago!

I am traveling with my parents (50ish) and my sister, age 20. I am 24. We aren%26#39;t really into ';extreme'; water sports but have done some snorkeling and surf lessons before. We visited Maui in August but have never been to Oahu. We would like to see the surfing competition on the north shore at some point during our stay for 7 nights. Do you know anything about that?

We like to spend time lounging in the sun during the day but after a few days we get a little burnt and would like ideas of other ';must sees'; on Oahu. We are of course thinking about visiting Pearl Harbor but haven%26#39;t really thought about any other activities.

Thanks!

ChiTown,

To answer your question about surf competitions on the north shore during your stay. The Van%26#39;s Triple Crown for both men and women is starting next month and continues with different competitions through Dec.

You can do a search and find a complete listing but some of the competitions going on are:

O%26#39;Neill World Cup at Sunset Beach,Oahu

Rip Curl at Banzai, Oahu

Roxy Pro (Women%26#39;s) Sunset Beach, Oahu

Hope that helps.
