Oahu Boat rental and location

Hi,

my fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to Hawaii in august 07 from Ireland and we are thinking of Oahu as the Hawaian Island to stay for a week.

We are interested in having a pool, a beach nearby as well as some nightlife. We would also like some privacy as well. I have been looking at vacation homes and found 2 suitable places - 1 in Kailua and 1 in Makaha. We will have a car.

Which of these would you recommend - or indeed is there somewhere else? Our budget would be up to $250 a day.

We are also very interested in renting a boat for a day to enjoy exploring the coastline and secluded beaches of the island, just the two of us. Is this service provided anywhere on the Island?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Paul

Can%26#39;t answer your question about the boat.

Kailua is a much better area than Makaha.

There is only one road to Makaha %26amp; if there is any kind of an accident, the road can be bottled up for hours.

The Leeward side, especially around Makaha, has become a lot of homeless camps. That usually means lots of crime. It also is not verry scenic seeing tent camps all over.

Lots to do on Oahu:

Ok - Seems to be Kailua anyways - or at least the east coast. Is there anywhere else on the east Coast besides Kailua I should look at?

The boat is something that really interests us and we would be grateful if anyone else had some info on this?

Not sure what you have in mind when you ask about boats. If you are interested in renting a kayak, I would suggest you call Go Banannas, a store which primarily sells ocean kayaks and equipment but also rents. We rented a kayak for the day from the store in downtown Hawaii. Excellent equipment and low price. It%26#39;s easy to strap the kayak on top your car and go where you like. Kayaking on Kaneohe Bay on the windward shore would make a great day. There are also companies who have kayak tours, but I did not explore that option.

Sorry - when i say boat I mean an engine powered boat that you could spend a day travelling around the shores on the ocean exploring the secluded coves. I have done this in the past on other holidays and it is a wonderful day out. Just wondering if there is anythign similar in Oahu.

I am not aware of such a thing. Will be surprised if you find what you are looking for. The ocean surrounding the islands is not your friend, and great caution must be taken whether swimming, surfing, or kayaking. Conditions can turn quite unexpectedly. For this reason, I doubt anyone will rent a tourist a boat for the day.

There are lots of secluded beaches with ready access by car or foot. Goat Island is interesting. It %26#39;s a 200-yard chest deep wade to reach. Chinaman%26#39;s Hat is also interesting. You%26#39;d want flotation, preferably a kayak to reach. But, for the most part, except for Waikiki and some of the popular , better-known windward and north shore beaches, the Oahu beaches are lightly used and you may find yourself the only one in sight.

Have fun, but never understimate the power of the Pacific Ocean.
