Any tips on how to avoid rental car lines????????????

Since I am not a preferred rental car customer I know I will be waiting in huge lines for my rental car when I arrive. Any ideas or tips on how to avoid these long lines or which rental car agency is the best.I want to spend my limited time enjoying the island not waiting in lines..........

Any tips on how to avoid rental car lines????????????

The last two years I have been to Kauai I have not had a problem at all with waiting in rental car lines.

Your best bet to avoid this is to send your significant other(or go yourself) to the rental booth you booked with while the other waits on the luggage. Get the car and either pay two dollars to park in the lot and help bring your bags to the car, or if the person waiting on the luggage is capable of getting it out to the curb themselves, just swing by and pick them up.

Then you are on your way!

If you are travelling with some else here%26#39;s a strategy that may help expedite your arrival in paradise.

Immediately after you get off the plane send one party (the driver)straight to the car rental shuttle bus. Without luggage to wrestle with this person will be the first to get off the bus when it arrives at the rental office and hence first in line to get a vehicle. The driver then takes the car back to the short term parking lot opposite the arrivals entrance, parks the car and goes to help with the bags.

When I used this ploy in Lihue we were out of the airport and on our way to the beach less than 30 minutes after arrival of our flight.

I have not encountered long lines (or even a line, really) on either of my trips to Kauai. Maybe we were lucky, but I really wouldn%26#39;t spend too much time worrying about it. Enjoy your trip!

hertz gold club. the bad: annual fee; the good: no lines, car ready to roll when you are.

There are no lines....this is Kauai!

We didn%26#39;t hit long lines until they piled up after us on Big Island as we came from another island just ahead of major part of our big group. One consideration is that the ones at end ended up with free upgrades such as to awd buick rendevous. Only had to fuss a little. Because we(3) were at head we got pontiac g6(also elite check in on sons card) while we on other islands(2) had bigger Chev Impalas to hold luggage in spacious trunk. Actually worst ever was Oahu as our rental was away from others further from airport .

Most of the preferred customer programs are free, why not join one? I joined Fastbreak and they always have the car waiting for me and just hand me the keys. Not as necessary in Kauai, but sure has saved a LOT of time in busier airports.

I agree. Just join one of the preferred programs. Most of them are free, like Alamo, Budget, Thrifty. That%26#39;s what I did and we always use their short lines. It%26#39;s really hit and miss whether or not you%26#39;ll experience long lines. I know Oahu is notorious for this though. Other than joining the programs, there%26#39;s pretty much no other way to avoid the lines. The other recommendation about letting 1 person go ahead to get the car is a good one, but chances are that person will still have to wait in line.

Even if I join the preferred program the first time you rent a car you have to show them your license and credit card so that idea won%26#39;t work. You see my vacation in Kauai will be the next time I rent a car.

We%26#39;ve been to Kauai twice and have no memory of waiting lines to pick up our rental cars. I don%26#39;t think there were any. I have a photo of my wife from last September as we were loading the luggage into the car. She looks happy, so I think the process went smoothly and quickly.
