Best restaurants needed

I will be celebrating my honeymoon at the Grand Hyatt in June.Would you all please be kind enough to inform me of the finest restaurants to have dinner at within 20 minutes driving.Money is not a problem just looking for great food. Thanks in advance!

Best restaurants needed

There are several upscale restaurants right there in Poipu:

Tidepools -- right there at the Hyatt, very romantic setting in the lagoons, expensive.

Beachhouse -- a few minutes away by car on the road to Spouting Horn, oceanfront, beautiful sunsets, expensive.

Roy%26#39;s -- in Poipu Village Shopping Center, also close by. Not as much ambience, expensive.

The Beachhouse probably gets the best reviews for food and I would agree with that. While none of these compare to the best in places like Chicago or Dallas, they are probably the best the island has to offer, in this class.

That being said, there are lots of casual, cheaper places that provide good food in less pricey settings.

I thought the food at the Beach House was pretty mediocre, at least compared to Roy%26#39;s. Frankly we thought the food at places like Coconuts and Keoki%26#39;s was about on a par with the Beach House.

I guess you could say we were underwhelmed by the place.

please tell me about those places

Casa de Amici is also good on the south side. Also expensive.

Keoki%26#39;s is probably the most reasonable nicer place.

Plantation Gardens was so so the last time we went there.

The first poster%26#39;s list is on target.

Within 20 minutes: Beach House. Reserve early for a window seat at sunset.

35 minutes: Hukilau Lanai. Not the oceanside location of Beach House, but a very pleasant garden setting.

Well, the list that you have is right on.....these posters know their stuff.

Just want to add in a really nice place, right in your Hyatt hotel.

Stevenson%26#39;s Library. A beautiful koa wood lounge, classy, and we go there for sushi and jazz, and drinks. And to talk story with friends.

Donderos: ( Hyatt ). Will be going there for some steak dinners on valentines night. Had good recommendations, so we will see how that turns out.

otherwise, you have some great places.

Oh, we also like to stop by the Tiki Bar at the Waiohai pool, overlooking the ocean and beach. They grille up great hamburgers and other tasty lunches right there at the bar.

Breakfast: If you would like friendly service, great view of the mountains and golf course, and good food...try JOES ON THE GREEN.

Denny

Denny - would like to hear what you think of Dondero%26#39;s. All these trips, but we have never gone there. I guess we get to the Hyatt and just can%26#39;t stay away from the lagoons.

Denny, Kimocat and Bedo,

I%26#39;ve eaten at Dondero%26#39;s a couple of times and enjoyed it immensely. Eat outside if at all possible. Stevenson%26#39;s Library is a great place for drinks and great music.

But for a honeymoon dinner, you have got to go to the Beach House. Yes, the food isn%26#39;t up to par with mainland top-of-the-line restaurants, but the views at sunset, the ambiance of surfers and tourists milling around and your own memories will make it an unforgettable evening!

Enjoy!

We have a reservation at the Beach House this coming Tuesday night. Can someone fill me in on the dress code? I%26#39;m assuming decent shorts and a polo shirt will work? Will we be underdressed?

joel, you can get away with nice shorts, but you might feel more comfortable in chinos or other nice pants. That%26#39;s what my husband prefers to wear to Beach House.
