Looking for a somewhat secluded place to stay...not in Hana

We%26#39;ve been to Maui, and know that Hana is the place to go for seclusion, but can%26#39;t stay there.

We are looking for a place that is a little closer to restaurants. Maybe somewhere with bungalows on the beach would be awesome.

Basically we want something that feels less commercialized, but still close to town.

Price really doesn%26#39;t matter, unless its rediculous. We%26#39;re not one of the rich and famous:) But we are willing to go five star or less.

How about the Prince in Makena?

Looking for a somewhat secluded place to stay...not in Hana

I checked it out and its absolutely beautiful! I will pass this along to our group. I am open for more ideas, so if anyone has any, I%26#39;d appreciate it.

What I like about the Prince is that it is not surrounded by other hotels. Is there any place like this that has little beach front or view bungalows like you find in Bora Bora?

Not in Maui.

I second the Prince recommendation. Quiet, peaceful, friendly.

The Big Island has the Kona Village Resort which is more like what you are looking for.

The Maui Prince is my favorite hotel on Maui, despite having also stayed at the Westin, Four Seasons, Grand Wailea. However, I remember reading TA reviews to the effect that it had gotten really rundown. So I%26#39;d check out the recent reviews to see what%26#39;s up there...I hope they fix it up because I want to go back! (Last stayed there in 2002 and it was simple, but fine, then.)

Maui Prince has GREAT sushi at Hakone, its Japanese restaurant. If you go, ask if Ivan is still there...he is a sushi genius!

Makena Surf in Wailea?

You do realize that the Prince is %26#39;way out there -- ten, twenty minutes to restaurants. (Not the ';close to town'; you asked for, but...you can%26#39;t really have it both ways: secluded AND close to town.) Would Wailea Ekahi suit? (Only rent direct from an owner so you get a refurbished unit.)

I%26#39;ll check those two out. 20 minutes is no biggy. I%26#39;d love to stay in Hana, but that%26#39;s just too far.

Thanks for your suggestions, and please keep them coming!

Have you looked at the cottages at Mama%26#39;s Fishhouse? I am not so familiar with them, but a friend just returned from her honeymoon there. She loved it. It is close to a great restaurant :)

We stayed at a beautiful B%26amp;B - the hooilo house - about 10 minutes from Lahaina. Gorgeous views and rooms, unbeatable service, and peaceful seclusion while still being close to town. Another plus for couples is that no kids are allowed here. Check out the reviews and pictures on this site. We loved the fact that we didn%26#39;t have to go anywhere for breakfast - we ate every morning on our private lanai. There are also tables around the front of the house that provide fabulous views of the ocean. My husband wasn%26#39;t a big B%26amp;B fan before this place changed his mind. We have also stayed at the Prince (though it%26#39;s been 10 years) and it definitely is one of the more secluded hotels, although I too have read that it has gone downhill some. We enjoyed it during our stay, but now that we have been to the hooilo house it is the only place we would stay if we ever get back to Maui. This year it%26#39;s Kauai for us! Have fun!
