T
Waimea Bay bound....
The time of year is crucial for swimming safety. The winter is a no go; completely reserved for experienced surfers. Waikiki is swimmable all year. But September is an excellent time for swimming on the North Shore. The water is calm and great for snorkelling. There is an excellent little beach right around the corner from Waimea going away from Haleiwa (and I can never remember the name of it)...but it has easy parking and access and is a semi-protected area great for snorkelling -- small fish, but good for kids and trees for shade. Waimea is gorgeous but difficult to find parking and a long hot walk down to the water.
Congratulations and have fun!
Oh, sunsets...happens every evening that I can recall. Although the beach faces north not west as in Waikiki, so the sun may be at an angle.
