Went and stayed at the Sheraton Maui for 4 nights on a trip that my wife had won. Most of our meals were provided, so I don%26#39;t have many reviews.....We went on the Kapalua Kai evening cocktail cruise and I would do this one again. Crew was attentive with appetizers and all the drinks you wanted. Went north from Whalers Village and back. Went to Lahina shopping and ate at Bubba Gumps. Thought it was a lot of fun as we got a table right over the water. Thought the price was fair and wife%26#39;s margarita was enough for two as they brought out a shaker glass which just kept refilling the glass she was drinking from. Enjoyed the day. Went on a bike ride down Haleakala with Maui Mountain Cruisers. These guys were a lot of fun. Left Kaanapali area in their shuttle about 7 a.m. and got back about 2. You order your sandwhich on the way out and they call it in to a small place near the end of the ride, so it is ready when you get there. Very well run except the continental breakfast is not much. With tip tax and lunch it ran $125.
On our 5th day my wife got sick and had to have some tests run at the hospital in Kahalui. The next morning my 11 year old daughter and I took the road to Hana, as this was something I really wanted to do(and my wife encouraged us to go without her and have a good time). We went to about the 25 mile mark and turned around due to our cell signal going in and out and my wife getting released from the hospital. One day we would like to return to Maui and do a full day on this road. We stayed our last two days at the Maui Banyan and thought this was a good property to consider if you are going to Maui. We stayed our 1st four nights at the Sheraton bldg. 3 on the 3rd floor.
Take plenty of sunscreen. If you burn you will burn quickly at the beaches here. Plan or check on transportation. If you don%26#39;t have a rent car check around as there are buses that run up and down Kaanapali and Kihei. Don%26#39;t stress about bringing every map or guide that you looked at on line. Maui is in it for the tourist and there are maps, guides, coupons, tour desks etc. just about everywhere you go. They start right at the airport, you can pick them up while waiting for your luggage. Keeping in mind May is considered a bit slow, we were able to book tours after we had arrived here all though I know many of them fill up faster. The shopping here was fun and we are not big shoppers. Aloha

Mahalo for your report. Hope your wife is doing alright and you all can go back and do the Hana Road.
back this week-a few thoughts
Thanks for the report, and yes, hope your wife is feeling better!
Sorry your wife got sick. It sounds like most of the trip was good though.
Thanks for the well wishes. We were at the Iao Needle and she had shortness of breath and increased heartbeat. At the hospital they really wanted to be carefull since she would be boarding a plane in 48 hrs. They gave her a breathing treatment which made the heartbeat increase even more. After keeping her for a little over 24 hrs total they released her. The conclusion is there was an allergic reaction to something and a ';mucus plug'; came loose in her system and caused the breathing problem. She is on a round of prednisone and some Advair and doing great a week later.
She even agreed that she would like to return to Hawaii one day!!! Yea!
Glad you wife is better. I have mild asthma, well controled with Advair 250/50. Pitty your DW on prednisone; drives me up the wall! I only have to take prednisone if the asthma flares up. I think the invention of Advair is a real miracle. Prior to it, I had to limp along; have a flare-up; go on prednisone (causes bone loss and insomnia). The only times I had trouble in Hawaii were once on Big Island (the Vog) and once on Maui when we had drywallers working in our condo AND had so much heavy rain that roaches were coming in, looking for shelter.
Perhaps your DW has thus-far-undiagnosed asthma?
