We will be in Volcano next week June 11 – 13 and I was wondering about the weather. I have read that it is cooler there. Will a light sweater or sweatshirt work or is some thing heaver needed? When it predicts showers are these normally light or should I bring some type of rain gear if we want to go hiking?
Thanks for all of your help!!!! It makes the planning so much easier!!!

Weather in June
Aloha,
I like to have a light rain jacket when I am in Volcano, one with a hood is nice. I always bring a light sweatshirt and long pants, good socks and walking/hiking shoes.
Also have the light stuff, it can get warm during the day!
I normally dress in layers in the AM, by noon I might be down to a t and shorts and by night fall the layers are back on.
Have a great time!
Weather in June
I%26#39;ve been there a couple times in June. One time it was HOT the next time it was COLD. I%26#39;d back a sweatshirt and take shorts along just in case.
yes, layers!
don%26#39;t use weather.com for any predictions. No good for the islands. NOAA is the only prediction to rely on and still not that informative any amount of time in advance. Island weather on the windward side is unpredictable.
The upper park is 2500-3500 feel elevation and cooler. Lower park is hot, dry, sweltering. Thus the layers.
I don%26#39;t spend a lot of time in Volcano, but have experienced rain as light rain. Hilo rain comes down like someone turned the tap on full force or is emptying buckets on your head. No doubt it does that in Volcano from time to time, but really not sure how they compare.
Layers it is. Getting ready to pack right now.
Thanks for the advice!!!
