Ok. I really have to nail this down. I have 5 days of a 17 day trip just hanging out there in the breeze. We fly into Hilo on Feb 3rd. Drive to Kona and stay there until the 13th. the 13th and 14th I have us booked into a cottage in Volcano. From the night of the 15th until we leave on the 20th I have no arrangements because I can%26#39;t decide where we should stay. I really want to be able to hear the surf on our last few days there before we come home to winter wonderland again. I was thinking Kapoho, but now I%26#39;m not sure. anybody at all have any advice? Places are going fast, and I just can%26#39;t make up my mind. My husband is no help, he knows I just take care of this kind of stuff. He does the heavy lifting. I%26#39;ve thought of Hilo, Puna, Waimea. I just want our last few days to be good snorkeling, good swimming (not necessarily beaches) and hearing the surf at night. Any ideas? Anyone? Help!! Beth, when and where are we meeting for lunch? Bambi
Heeeelp!
First off, why fly into Hilo and then drive all the way over to Kona? It would be best to fly into Kona, until your stay on the 15th. Why so many nights in Volcano? Then go to Hilo, stay until you are ready to fly out of Hilo. One of favorite places to stay to hear the surf at night and all throughout the day is Magic Sands Condos. Just be sure to check out the units as they are individually owned and are not equally cared for. Check on the review section. Also, we just got back from staying a week in the downstairs studio of a 2 story house right on the ocean. It was awesome! We booked it on VRBO.com and it%26#39;s called Hale Honu. If I were making these arrangements and you are commited to flying into Hilo first, stay there first, then Volcano (fewer nights), then stay your maximum time in Kona at Hale Honu. You are REALLY late in making these arrangements as you already know so start calling these places quickly!
Heeeelp!
Right! I%26#39;ve already booked 10 nights at Magic Sands. And the 2 nights at Volcano are mostly my husband. He wanted 2 nights. It%26#39;s only the last 5 nights I haven%26#39;t booked. And I was pretty convinced I wanted Kapoho. I guess I still do. I%26#39;m just so wishy-washy.
well, Kapoho = snorkeling. Can you hear surf from the place? If so it sounds good. Kapoho will be sunny, almost guaranteed, whereas Hilo is iffy in February.
Another choice could be HPP, there is a place people have mentioned right oceanfront that looks great. Absolute Paradise? Try searching for that here. Surf pounds off the coast of HPP, but you would have to drive further down to Kapoho to snorkel. Not THAT far, not so far as from Hilo.
I think it%26#39;s a good choice; Waimea is upcountry and doesn%26#39;t sound a bit like what you want. You have 10 days in Kona, so why not Puna? go for it!
Thank you so much. I will. You%26#39;re right of course, I just needed the extra push. After the horrible trip we had to Oahu last year I realized that the last few days are sooo important and can make or break the trip. Thanks for the little push and the wonderful advice. It is exactly what we%26#39;re looking for. Bambi
you will hear surf at magic sands..... but in Feb there wont be any sand.
