Hello all,
Am planning our honeymoon for August 07 and we cant decide where to stay. We change our minds every day between these two places. We love the look of Kailua in Oahu (suckers for the pics of the water colour!) but we have also found a wonderful property in Maui near Wailea beach.
On another post it was mentioned about wading to an Island in Oahu and kayaking to another and they both sound wonderful. Also I know there is loads to do on Oahu - question is are the same xpierences there on Maui - i.e. the beautiful tropical water, the kayaking exploring snokling near where we would be. Also waht about restaraunts/late cocktails in both places?
Thanks for any replies!

Honeymoon Oahu/Maui - Cant Decide!!
A problem on Oahu is that there are not many good lodgings outside of Waikiki. It matters a LOT to me where I stay; I%26#39;m not one of those ';anywhere I lay my head is home'; people. So...unless the city life draws you and you want to swim off Waikiki (I wouldn%26#39;t)...
...Take the nice place on Maui. You will not want for beaches there. Take a kayak out in early a.m. along the Wailea beaches and see sea turtles. Snorkel. Swim. There are plenty of nice places to eat and dine in Wailea and Kihei. Go up to West Maui and see Lahaina%26#39;s Front Street nightlife. Drive to Hana. Hike into Haleakala or bike down from it. Check out the windsurfers on the east side and eat at Mama%26#39;s Fish House. Visit the artists in Makaweo. Tour the Iao Valley.
Honeymoon Oahu/Maui - Cant Decide!!Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
We spent our honeymoon in Kauai and Maui several years ago. In Kauai we stayed in Poipu at the Hyatt Regency and then stayed in Maui at the Grand Wailea in Wailea.
My thoughts: The Hyatt in Kauai was the ultimate honeymoon destination for us. It was an unbelievable experience and the hotel is so lovely -- just perfect. We didn%26#39;t love our stay in Maui nearly as much as our stay in Kauai. It may have been the location and the hotel. Not sure. In front of our hotel at the Grand Wailea was a beautiful, calm beach. It was a long drive to go into the Kaanapali area, though. The hotel was probably not a good pick for a honeymoond. The four seasons I hear is wonderful -- not sure what your budget is but have heard rave reviews about it.
Good luck with everything! Let us know what you decide.
Thanks
Hi guys,
I neglected to mention we have found a nice place in Kailua too so accomodation would not be a problem. What really is drawing me to Kailua is the thought of those beautiful tropical waters (you know the pics I mean).
What is the best beach for this on Maui and what else outside of Kailua (and Pearl Harbour) is there to do on Oahu??!!

Lots to see %26amp; do on Oahu:

I have been to Hawaii 20+ times. My favorite is Oahu. Oahu has many things to do. You do not have the expense of renting a car because most things are in walking distance or the bus is $1.60 per person one way. So spare that $$$$$.. My next favorite is Maui because you can rent the car and take the road to Hana. However make sure that you take food and plenty to drink with you because there isn%26#39;t a single place to stop on the way through. I stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and it was beautiful! The resort pool was incredible with the waterfalls and hammock on the waters edge. Another interesting thing on Maui was the drive up Haleakula Crator. It was used during WW II to see the japanese planes.
I also liked the Big Island and renting a car to see Hawaii Volcano National Park. What a sight to see. You drive around the rim of the volcano and see the eruption that is still happening today. You can also take helicopter tours over the eruptions. The winery iscool too if you like wine and taste testing.
As far as Kauai, You need to stay at a larger resort because it is an island that nothing really happens after 9:30pm. It is really quiet so if you like to party and hang out at night it is not the place to be.
Just amke sure that you remember you are in Hawaii and you can%26#39;t leave without seeing a LUAU!!! Hawaii is truly my second home!
Good luck and congrats!
Two things:
1. Is the Kailua place licensed, newer, refurbished? There have been many posts on TA about problems there.
2. I%26#39;m surprised with your focus on Kailua%26#39;s beach. It%26#39;s fine, but have you looked at the beaches of Kauai and Maui? The whole of South Maui is a beach, albeit interrupted by some lava outcroppings and lush hotels and condos. Once you get as far south as Makena, you will be out where bara lava meets the pounding ocean. The beaches of north Kauai are where film-makers made South Pacific and many others.
In going through my pics from our trip to Oahu and Maui, I will honestly say that my prettiest beach pictures are of Kailua Beach. I agree with ChiSue, make sure the property you%26#39;re looking into is a legal property. They have been shutting down illegal ones left and right. As a matter of fact, we had one reserved before we left and got a call stating it was being shut down. We decided to just get a hotel on Waikiki so we didn%26#39;t have to hassle with it. Next time we will make sure we get a legal property in Kailua or on the North Shore. Search the internet, you%26#39;ll find something.
One thing we really wanted to try was a kayak trip with Mokulua Kayak. Looks like an awesome trip, we just didn%26#39;t have the time. They%26#39;ve gotten excellent reviews here on the forum.

Happy planning!
I just posted this on another thread, although Dusty usually has this all covered:
Our favorites-
Pearl Harbor - Arizona Memorial and USS Missouri Tour
North Shore - if you like shrimp, stop at a shrimp truck - yummy!
Hanauma Bay
Pali Lookout - amazing views of East Oahu!
You should hike Diamond Head, just to say you did it. But I wouldn%26#39;t do it again.
We also got great views of Waikiki/Diamond Head from the state park on the Tantalus/Round Top drive. The drive is an edge-of-your-seater and kind of creepy, but it%26#39;s still beautiful. The only bummer is the road is closed past the park, so you have to turn around and come back the same way.
One more tip - get a convertible! You can see so much more while you%26#39;re driving.
