We are headed to Hawaii in August for our 4th trip, and are going to BI and Maui this year. Our flights are in and out of Kona, so we will need to fly back to Kona after visiting Maui. There is a non-stop from OGG-KOA on Northwest that gets into KOA at 8:15. We fly back to Boston on US Air/America West at 11 p.m. Is this enough time for us to make our flight home?
Is this enough time (inter-island flight question)?
Better check a couple of things on NWA and USAir/America West websites.
First check on what the specific airline you are traveling on considers a ';legal connection'; time. They will post these times on their websites for connection purposes. For instant, look for ';interisland Hawaii) to mainland connections';.
If you are checking bags check on the airlines policy for legal connections with bags. Find in their website if these two airlines have a baggage agreement.
If you don%26#39;t check in within the time limits each airline posts they can deny your boarding.
Is this enough time (inter-island flight question)?
The previous poster has good advice--verify the guidelines given by both airlines. It seems, however, that you would have no problem. You%26#39;ll have 2:45 between flights. I can%26#39;t imagine any airline would require a longer layover. Find out if Northwest will check your bags all the way through from Kahului to Boston; this would save you having to gather and re-check your bags in Kona.
Hey Gloucester! ! Aloha from Harvard Ma (7 mos of the year).
I do the Boston Kona Run 4 times a year! I am guessing your AW flight is via Phoenix!
Everyone is right, do check what the air lines say, even call if you can endure the prompts.
As important see if they will check your luggage all the way through. This will be a real time saver.
That said KOA is a small airport and if you had to collect and re check your luggage it can be done, on Hawaii time in 1 1/2 hrs tops. My real guess is an hour.
Rule of thumb is 2 hours to make a connection.
Remember to do the Ag Inspection in Maui if you want to get your bags checked through to the mainland. Else you will have to get out of line and go get in line at the Ag X-Ray.....
Thanks for all your tips, this is what I figured. I think we will be okay. In the past, we have always been able to check our bags all the way through, hopefully this will be the case this time.
And, yep, AlohaAdeline -- we are going through Phoenix! We always fly AA to Hawaii, but US Air/AWA was SO cheap this time, we had to take it! Lucky you -- living in Mass. and Hawaii! :)
