All:
I am curious how everyone else spends their time? How much time do you spend at the pool vs. how much time you spend on the beach(es)?
For us in the past 5yrs, going 2 weeks each trip I would be surprised if we have spent more than 8hrs total at the pool. All of our time is spent at different beaches. Even at the condo which has a nice pool we literally walk right past and go to the beach.
That is one of the things that brings us to Maui is the different beaches. This sounds terrible and don%26#39;t take the wrong way but we can stay at a pool anywhere??(granted we can%26#39;t see the ocean at the local hotel in Indiana, even on a clear day).
What about everyone else.
Pool vs Beach???
When we stayed at the old Maui Islander, which had a pool, we would take a swim everyday when we got back from sightseeing before going out to dinner. We wondered about staying at a place without one, but the beach was so close at the Punahoa that we never missed the pool. Would take an ocean front lanai over a pool.
Pool vs Beach???
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sheraton Kaanapali in Maui in January of 2005. The beach was absolutely wonderful there! We went snorkeling right at the beach along Black Rock. We probably spent equal amounts of time at the beach and the pool. The pool was large and fun and I doubt we would have spent as much time there as we did if it wasn%26#39;t as nice. I think something else which attracted us to stay at the pool was the service. We frequently ordered drinks there. We are hoping to go back to Maui later this year, but I%26#39;d love to go explore some new beaches and other places to snorkel. =)
I have to laugh at posts asking where in Hawaii are the best hotels with pools for small children. Why would you travel so far to find a pool a child would love? (And endure a long flight with a small child!)
I know a couple who used to drive ten miles from home to a motel with a pool for a vacation with their kids. No long rides. No high costs. Mom didn%26#39;t cook. And home was nearby in case someone got sick. The kids were too young to remember where they%26#39;d been except that they%26#39;d had fun. Today there are indoor water parks where families go to relax and play in the water.
Now, if you want the OCEAN -- that%26#39;s different.
I completely agree, a pool is a pool...and Maui is about soooo much more. And so much more than even beaches....we%26#39;re spending less time in the ';hot spots'; and more time exploring and experiencing different things, like 3 nights in Hana, and 4 nights in Kula....but still with 7 days at the beach!!
To answer your question, we do the beach in the morning, and pool for an hour in the afternoon while the little one has a nap.
It really depends on the quality of the beach. If it has a sandy bottom and snorkeling I would spend no time at the pool (where you are more likely to be subjected to loud cell phone talkers, crying babies and splashing kids).
Beach 100% Pool 0%
I can sit by a pool in 49 other states!
We do both. We usually go the beach in the morning and the pool in the afternoon. Personally I like the pool in the afternoon so I can plant my rear on a lounge chair and enjoy a mai tai.
when we went in oct. we spent about a total of 1 hour in that nice pool-3 dips. tried 5 different beaches.
We%26#39;ve only been to Maui once (what I hope is the first of many trips!), and in 10 days there we never went into a pool. My kids (8 and 10) never asked to go to a pool, either.
I%26#39;m with all of you... I%26#39;m not going to sit on a chair on a slab of concrete when I%26#39;m steps away from a great beach! The beaches are so wonderful... and what%26#39;s under water is fascinating.
However, there must be many others who don%26#39;t feel the same way I do. I saw many people lounging poolside, esp. at the Grand Wailea. Judging by the make-up, hair, and jewelry, they weren%26#39;t planning on snorkeling any time soon! To each his own!
OK, to be fair, I should add that I do see the appeal of a mai tai by the pool! But that would only be after a day of hiking or snorkeling or somehow taking advantage of all the natural beauty that Maui offers. No pool, no worries... I%26#39;ll have my drink on the lanai!
