Okay, I need advice. And who better to ask, than the experts on tripadvisor :) . So I%26#39;ve been working out different plans for our honeymoon to hawaii, which i decided would be better than BVI and Puerto Rico. Here%26#39;s a rough schedule of events. PLEASE comment so that I can make this an unforgettable honeymoon!
May 25
-Arrive Hilo
May 26
-Drive to Volcano National Park
May 27
-Drive from Hilo to Kauila Kona
(what do to in Kauila Kona??)
May 29 or 30th (haven%26#39;t decided)
-Fly to Maui (where in Maui?? )
June 2
-Leave Maui
This might not seem like it was planned out, but it took time to plan this far out. I know that we want to go snorkeling, relax, hiking, shopping and what not. So I would loved help on where to stay, activities that should not be missed while staying at the above islands, and dining! So what do you all think??
Honeymoon: May 25 - June 2
You could easily spend the whole time on Big Island. If you want to see the volcano, stay at Volcano one or two nights. I wouldn%26#39;t stay right in Hilo -- very little to choose from there. You can see the Hilo area waterfalls, etc. from Volcano.
Kona, IMO, is worth a browse for a couple of hours. South of it, see Place of Refuge, macnut and coffee plantations.
Go north to Kohala area for nicest lodgings. Drive up to north point and back along the mountain ridge to Waimea. Dip over to the wet side. (Rest of wet side coast is agricultural.)
If you ONLY want to see the volcano, stay Maui and make that a day trip, flying in and out of Hilo. Would you want West Maui or South Maui? West is more high-rise, high density with some nightlife in the Lahaina/Kaanapali stretch. South Maui has four posh resort hotels and nice condos in Wailea and South Kihei. North Kihei and Maalea are less expensive. It%26#39;s easier to access all the rest of Maui from South because West has only one 2-lane road in and out.
