My husband and I (both in our early 30s) are considering a visit at the end of Feb, is this a good time weather wise? I am looking at hotels in the Kona region, is this a good place to stay?
Thank you.
Is Feb a good time to visit?
The weather is pretty much the same year around. The nicer hotels are up in South Kohala, except the Sheraton in Kailua-Kona.
Is Feb a good time to visit?
It%26#39;s a good time on the west side, perhaps not the best time to visit the eastern part of the island, which may not matter. It is high season when many people come to find the sun. I like February because it%26#39;s not so hot as summer.
Kailua-Kona is a town. North Kona and South Kona are two of the island districts and North Kona extends way past the town, so keep in mind when you say Kona region we aren%26#39;t sure what you%26#39;re talking about, whether in the town (older hotels, not very nice), in Keahhou (Sheraton), or north of town (Four Seasons).
You should decide whether you need to stay by a great beach; you won%26#39;t find one in Kailua-Kona, but it has its own set of advantages.
';good place to stay'; depends on what you plan to do!
We are looking for a quality hotel, I was looking at the Sheraton and the Fairmont . The beach is not the most important factor, we are looking to relax, be warm (escape from the cold Seattle Rain), nice pool, maybe a spa and some activities. We aren%26#39;t lay on the beach 24/7 people.
sheraton will be the best pool and best bang for the buck.... it is also near all the ocean activities departure points.. sailing, snorkeling, diving fishing
Feb can get windy in the Kohala coast... Kona region is a younger set vacation Kohala more up-scale family. Better food in Kohala,
better atmosphere in Keauhou
I agree with HawaiiDan, the Sheraton sounds like a good fit for you.
Thank you for your help. This forum has been very informative and helpful.
You might want to go on hotwire.com and get a room there at the Sheraton. (Zip code 96740, it%26#39;s the only 4-Star Hotel in Kona, so you know you will get the Sheraton.) I frequently were able to get a garden view room there around $155 and use Starwood points to upgrade.
We decided to take your suggestion and have booked a room at the Sheraton.
Now I am working on planning activities. We want to get spa treatments (ie massages) and are wondering if there are better places than the hotel spas, which seem very pricy?
There is a spa right in the middle of the town across from the Kona Inn but it%26#39;s not much cheaper than the hotels. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth to save a few bucks to go to a spa located in an alley over a much nicer spa at the hotel.
