I was told that Dollar no longer rents cars on Lanai.
I am going to call, but if this is true that only leaves Jeeps and mini-vans....
Anyone know of another rental agency? Or if this is correct?
Lanai car rental-no longer available?
Not sure if Dollar is still there but with only a few miles of paved roads you need a 4X4 to go sightseeing.
Lanai car rental-no longer available?
I don%26#39;t like the bus, woudl prefer a car.
But the price of a jeep kills the deal.
Yeah they are expensive there but without one you are stuck with just driving the paved road, and like I said, there is not much of it.
Hi there, we just returned on Sat. from Lanai. We did see the Dollar rental but to be honest all I did see were Jeeps. We did not rent a car while there.
If you really want to explore, you need the Jeep. A car will keep you on the local road, which is nothing, you can basically go back and forth between Manele Bay and The Lodge and you have the shuttle service for that. Even if you rent a car, you are not allowed to go on any of the roads that lead to the sights that normally everyone goes to see on Lania - Garden of the Gods, Polihua Beach, Munro Trail. We have been there twice and have rented the Jeep each time. We paid $139 for a day in December. It%26#39;s worth it, especially Polihua Beach which is incredible.
Even if they rented regular cars, I wouldn%26#39;t waste my money on one. The resort runs shuttles every 1/2 hour and that is much easier than driving yourself. Rent a Jeep for 1 day so you can see the remote parts of the island. And as I suggest use Adventure Lana%26#39;i Ecocentre - www.adventurelanai.com - 808-565-7373 (they do reservations only over the phone). Dollar%26#39;s jeeps are not as rugged and they will restrict you more as to where you can drive.
When Dollar used to rent cars they were not cheap either, something like $60-70/day. If they have stopped, it was because no one was renting them.
