Last time, we stayed at the Sheraton and loved it, but it is a bit pricey for the next time around when we would like to stay longer. We plan on splitting our time between the Hala Pau Hana in S Kihei (since we%26#39;ve not stayed on that side) and either the Mahana or the Kaanapali Beach Hotel.
We are torn because we like the looks of the rooms and the view at the Mahana, but prefer the location and beach near Whaler%26#39;s Village and Black Rock of the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Breaking a trip into 3 parts doesn%26#39;t seem worthwhile. The Mahana is less $ (~230) for seemingly nicer rooms than the KBH (~305) , but we would need to drive instead of walk to our favorite places like we did when we stayed at the Sheraton. My husband really likes to park it and forget it so that he can relax and enjoy a Mai Tai or two... We really like the idea of sitting on our lanai and soaking up the sunsets without needing to fight the crowds for sunset view tables at dinner. We don%26#39;t cook on vacation.
What would you choose and why? Thanks!
Mahana or Kaanapali Beach Hotel?MBS,
As you probably know I am a Mahana fan but from your post it sounds like you have a good grasp of the 2 places. I agree about not breaking the trip into 3 parts. The view from the Mahana are fabulous but that is only part of your trip to consider. I don%26#39;t think you will have a better sunset view than from your lanai. We don%26#39;t cook either so that has nothing to do with why we stay here. Good luck with your decision.
Mahana or Kaanapali Beach Hotel?Aloha!
Have you priced a STUDIO unit at the Whaler?
It might be in your price range, and it will place you in the center of the action.

I have definitely considered the Whaler. For this time, I am looking for a ';dead on'; oceanfront view. For the Whaler, that would mean a 2BR place that is more $ than we want to spend.
There are direct oceanfront one-bed/two bath units at The Whaler. They run about $85.00 more per night than the ocean view category. Also, the Alii has great oceanfront units, but are very pricey IMO.
Based on what you have said I would choose the KBH. I think it would be great for your dh to be able to park it and forget it.
Bump.
