Most convenient car rental at Kona Airport

What is the most convenient car rental agency at Kona Airport. Easy pick-up/drop-off etc.?

Most convenient car rental at Kona Airport

I think all of them are now a shuttle ride away--maybe one or 2 are at the termoinal area, but most/all moved due to security.

We always use National. Not the cheapest but not bad and we never have had a big line (those are at the cheapest ones like Alamo) or a problem with the car. Shuttle comes around every 5-10 minutes.

If you have nondrivers in the party, have them get/stay with luggage while drivers go get car. (All drivers sign at National as of 1/07--they keep changing the policy on this.) Otherwise, have someone get/stay with luggage, one driver get car, then pick up rest of party and stop back at counter to have other drivers sign on.

All of the car rental places are about a half-mile away from the terminal; nothing at the terminal itself, and each is about the same distance more or less.

Over the years, there have been more complaints about long lines at Alamo than the other agencies in Kona. Doesn%26#39;t mean that it%26#39;s always slow...just seems to be more often.

Thanks for the info. We were thinking about Alamo - but I don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ll use them now. Thanks for the tip about splitting up to get the luggage/car. Is it easy to drive back to the airport after the car pick-up to get those of us who waited for the luggage?

It%26#39;s very easy to swing back to the airport, just look for the sign of your airline so you know where to stop. The airport is quite small.

Alamo will be hit or miss as far as being slow, it just depends on how many planes landed around the same time as yours.

I think Alamo has the best rates, so people who use Priceline name your own price are likely to get Alamo as well as those choosing the best deal, so no wonder if they have a line ...

Thanks! We may go with Hertz. With our Triple A discount it will still be a little more than Alamo - but hopefully, no line to wait in!

KK, I always use priceline and I usually get either Avis or Hertz. I got Alamo only once in the past two years. I always bid on a small car and almost always end up with a free upgrade because they don%26#39;t have small cars available. The Avis guys (make that girls) already know me in Honolulu and we always joke about how little I paid for their car. :)

Ah OK! They gave me Alamo ... which had also been the lowest quote listed.

Good tip. I never reserve a midsize or larger car either.

The only car company I dislike is Hertz, but because MY experiences with them have been 100% poor, it%26#39;s so long now since I vowed never to rent with them again that I can%26#39;t say what they%26#39;re like now ... probably fine. I wish AAA worked with a different company though.

I just rented a car for our trip this afternoon. National actually came in the cheapest much to my surprise - with all the kids and stuff though we have to go with a minivan.
