Best Molokini Snorkel

I am looking for some input on the various Molokini snorkel tours. I know that I need to go on the AM tour, but I am not sure which boat I have been on the Four Winds a couple of times, but I would like to know if there are better options.

Best Molokini Snorkel

Hi oharabra,

Here is Day 4 of my trip report from October. It talk all about the snorkel cruise we were on.

Day 4 - Tuesday October 10th

We went snorkeling today. The alarm went at 7 am. Got in our suits, brushed hair and teeth and left for Ma%26#39;leaa Harbour for our eco-tour. We booked our tour throught the Pacific Whale Foundation, it was a great trip and so much fun. Got to the harbour at 7:45 am. Lucky for us it was only a 10 minute drive from Sugar Beach Resort. Checked in at the Pacific Whale Foundation Store, waited until the tour director came to get everybody at 8:00. The catamaran was great. It was called Ocean Odyssey, and was a wonderful smooth ride. It held 149 passengers, and was totally full that day. Boarded the catamaran and were introduced to all the friendly crew members. The we took off for our first site. On the way there we found about 30 spinner dolphins surrounding our catamaran. The followed along with the catamaran and they even did a few tricks for us. It was so awesome!! We went to two snorkeling sites. First, we ended up in Turtle Arches (or ';Turtle Town'; as the crew members called it). However, it wasn%26#39;t that great. The water was quite cloudy and we only saw two turtles. On the way there, we had a wonderful breakfast of pasteries, muffins, fresh fruit, and coffee, tea and juice. They served it downstairs, and for the people sitting up stairs the crew members came up and served us. Second, we went to Molokini which was great. Very clear water, with lots of great fish to look at. We even saw and eel and a shark (who was in a cave). Thankfully, the shark didn%26#39;t come out! One of the crew members (Josh) was doing reef tours and we learned so much about the ocean environment and the history of Molokini. After we finished snorkeling, they served a wonderful bbq lunch, with chicken burgers, veggie burgers and pasta salad. As well as juice, pop, beer and my favorite mai tais. After lunch, we had a wonderful trip back to the harbour. This was a great trip, and I would definitely do it again because the crew members are wonderful and the proceeds go to the Pacific Whale Foundation to help save the whales ect....

Good Luck!

Sorry, I forgot to add there web-site. Check them out at:

You can try Trilogy. Been with them twice and can definately recommend.

We did the molokini-lanai trip with PWF at Christmas. Saw lots of whales while crossing to Lanai. It was a good trip overall but if you want to eat they are very! frugal with their food. Also my credit card was charge twice for the trip and it took over 10 calls and alot of time on hold to get this credited back.

If your looking for small crowds and an awesome crew and boat checkout the Aqua Adventure.

Their trip is an AM trip and they try to moor away from the larger boats. These guys and gals are great. We have used them twice now and couldn%26#39;t be happier. They also offer snuba which my 12YO son and I tried last July and loved it.

dcj- how did you like the all day snorkel? Was it too much, too long to be out there all day. I%26#39;m looking at the Molokini-Lanai, or the all day Lanai from Trilogy, but I%26#39;m thinking that may just be toooo long to be out there? Anybody who%26#39;d done it? What do you think?

We%26#39;ve done both. At Molokini, very clear water but too deep for snorkeling unless you get right up to the edge. Very sparce fish population because of the crowds. Four Winds II, great boat, food, crew, just bad snorkeling. Beware, even on the am trip, many got sick so take something if you have that tendency. Lanai, great trip over seeing dolphins and whales during the winter months. Snorkeling, very good fish and creature population. Nice area for laying in hammocks and reading. Inside area for the bbq lunch, yummy. Paragon, great boat, food, crew snorkeling. Saw whales coming back as well. We felt it was as much a whale watching tour as it was a snorkeling tour.

the day seemed to go pretty fast, did not seem long at all. Really not in the water very long at all. Maybe 45 min. at the most at both spots. Snorkeling at black rock was better than both molikini and lanai but it was something to do at least once. With pwf the snorkel spot on lanai is at the entrance to the harbor and the water currents were pretty strong, some people underestimated their distance back to the boat and had a little trouble swimming back.

I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s the best but we have gone to Molokini two times on The Lani kai. The boat is large and spacious and the crew is great. I recommend it.

I just went to their website, they have a cute little movie you can watch. Google Friendly Charters if you want to take a look.
