luau with kids..staying in kihei

sorry, another luau post!

we are a group of 6 adults and 6 children (5 %26amp; under) staying in kehei in march. seriously considering the royal lahaina luau becuase of the kid factor. can anyone recommend a luau in wailea (closer to where we are staying) that is free for the kids and appropriate? thanks so much.

There is one at the Marriott but I can%26#39;t tell you how good it is. We watched a little from the path one night and it seemed fine. If I were going to spend my money on one again I would do The Old Lahaina Luau.

Here%26#39;s a blurb I have saved regarding the Maui Sunset luau (Drums of Makena) at the Maui Prince:

';We attended this luau last November with friends. Both couples were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversaries........

We really enjoyed it. We paid in advance for ';premire seating';. It cost an extra $8 pp, but was worth it. For the extra $$, we were escorted around the long line of people wating to get in and seated at our table front and center of the stage. We were also the first to go throught the buffet line.

The food was very good. Not great, but very good with lots of variety. We enjoyed the kalua (sp?) pork and the lomi lomi salmon the most. The deserts were FANTASTIC. A HUGE variety and very tasty. I%26#39;m a low carb eater, but I just couldn%26#39;t resist tasting at least a few (well, okay, quite a few!!).

The show was very entertaining. The host was a crack-up. The girls were very beautiful and poised and the guys were awesome. This is not a traditional Hawaiian luau, but one that tells the story of the different cultures of the islands. There is a fire knife show at the end as well. At different points during the show, people are invited on stage to learn the hula and to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. My wife and I danced to the Hawaiian Wedding Song on stage along with our friends. Very special moment for us!! My best friend%26#39;s wife was asked on to the stage by one of the male performers for the grand finale. It was priceless!

If there was one disappointment it was the open bar. The drinks were very weak and the bar closed at 7:30 pm, for liability reasons I would guess. Fortunately, I found a bartender symapthetic to my needs and he ';spiced up'; my drinks for me.

All in all, it was a good time and I would do it again. Of course, I have nothing to compare it to.';

The Maui Prince is about 5 miles south of Wailea.

We did the Luau at the Marriot in Wailea this past Dec. 30. We were 2 families (4 adults and 7 kids - ages 8-16) The food is really good and the show was as good as the one at the Old Lahaina (which we did a year ago) plus they have the fire dancer. I agree with the previous post regarding the drinks - we were a bit disappointed, but on the up side we were staying in Kihei and the Marriott is a 5-10 minute drive from Kihei as opposed to travelling to and from Lahaina. Have fun!

thanks for the responses everyone! i think we are leaning towards a luau in wailea so that we can be closer to kihei. the renaissance is free for 4 and under i think....and our oldest is 5 and would cost us 42 dollars. do they check kids ages when u go in?? the marriott is 5 and under free. mahalo!

No they don%26#39;t check the ages as you go in. We booked ours a few months before our trip and we just told them how many of each (adults and kids) and it was fine.
