Hi,
We are looking at staying in Kauai April/May 2007. What places can you recommend on Poipu side? Will need car hire too.
Cheers,
Michelle
Where to stay - Poipu side - 2 adults, 1 infant
Michelle,
Are you looking to stay at a hotel or condo / private home?
The Hyatt is a great hotel, especially with a little one (although an infant may be too young to appreciate the perks) but it%26#39;s expensive.
The Sheraton is nice, is on a wonderful beach and isn%26#39;t expensive as the Hyatt.
The Marriott Waiohai is a timeshare condo-type place that gets good reviews and is very close to the beach.
Kiahuna Plantation is also a very kid-friendly condo complex that%26#39;s on the same beach as the Sheraton.
Other larger condo complexes include Poipu Kapili, Poipu Kai, Kuhio Shores, and Prince Kuhio.
Whichever you choose, you%26#39;d better get on booking something quick. It%26#39;s already April 2007 !!

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I know I must get busy booking everything. Just with relatives staying from interstate and dealing with difficult baby because of illness I haven%26#39;t found the time.
We are looking for something not too expensive and probably a condo over a hotel with an infant.
Cheers,
Michelle
Do a google search for condo rental poipu and many rental companies will come up. I know suite-paradise has been recommended before on this forum, I have seen remax mentioned before, I have looked at summitpacific before. I think with your timeframe vrbo would be overwhelming and time consuming. Give a few of those listed a try. You will find something. Have a great trip. Oh - we have used discounthawaiicarrental and got great service/good rates. Mindy
Grantham Resorts is advertising 7th nite free, until December I think. They have some nice, reasonably priced properties.
Watch where you are staying in Poipu. There is apparently a lot of construction around Waikomo Stream Villas (where we are booked for Apr 25-May 9, 07). We have been assured that if the noise gets too bad, we will be moved. (Search this site for Wakomo Stream Villas and the link for my post/question re: noise.)
Budget has pretty good prices for the cars, currently. We are paying $107 USD/week, two weeks is coming in as $291 USD with all fees and taxes. All we need is an ecomony car however, other car sizes/classes are higher prices.
For condos I would also look at vrbo.com, kauaivacationrentals.com, and maybe check out some of the Realty companies like Remax or Coldwell Banker Bali Hai.
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
I live on Po%26#39;ipu Road just down the street from where the road to the new development (Kukui%26#39;ula)is going in that is causing 90% of all the construction noise around here.
If I were booking a condo/hotel in this area, I would try to keep the location on the Hyatt side of Po%26#39;ipu Beach Park -- these condos and hotels are on the ';quiet side'; just now from all the construction.
Anything on the other side, including properties down on Lawai Road will be affected in some way by noise or construction traffic.
Just my suggestion!
Malama Pono,
Janet
My husband and I are staying at Kiahuna Plantation this July with our infant, who will be 10 months at the time. We found what we think is a very lovely condo on www.vrbo.com. there are lots of Kiahuna Plantation condos on this website and this is much cheaper than going through the managing agents. In case you didn%26#39;t know, vrbo allows you to rent directly through the owner. You might even find some deals because it%26#39;s last minute. i think april/may is the slower season, so you should still be able to find something nice, even if it%26#39;s last minute.
good luck
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
Sally05 -- did the management folks at Kiahuna tell you about the reconstruction of the Po%26#39;ipu Beach Hotel going on next to you?
Just wanted to make sure you knew because it is the very last (next to Coco Palms) hotel that is being re-built after Hurricane Iniki -- it is not close to being finished, so construction is continuing throughout the summer.
I%26#39;d just check and make sure you unit is on the far side of the construction noise - especially with an infant!

Thanks everyone.
I found the most amazing place to stay, I fell in love with it. Will definitely stay there again if we go back. I couldn%26#39;t recommend it highly enough and there are no words to describe how amazing it was.
The site that I found it on was www.vrbo.com/27572. It was on the Poipu side.
I had the opportunity to meet the owner whilst there and he was really lovely.
We had a lovely welcome basket on arrival with fresh pineapple, cookies, coffee etc.
I felt like royalty. It made the next place we stayed at seem like a slum lol.
Cheers,
Michelle
