Where's the Beef?

I%26#39;ve been checking out the Restaurants/menus on trip advisor

and I have to say, we are just plain and simple (Picky as heck)

eaters.

Where are the best burgers on Maui?

I figure the best burgers, lava flows, hula pie and the frest fruit, and we will be set. Then start major diet when return.

Mahalo!!!

Where's the Beef?

The best burgers on Maui are probably off some local boy%26#39;s hibachi down at some beach park....

I%26#39;m sure there will be folks who can argue this one all night, but my favorite place for burgers on Maui is the Kahului Ale House behind the Maui Mall.

Of course it may be because of the great beer selection of ice cold drafts, that it has sooooo many TV screens for sports or the cool folks who hang there. But, the burgers are good (particularly the ';black %26amp; bleu';), and I highly recommend the ';Louisiana Bouya'; which is nice and spicy (if you order it in the sourdough bread bowl make sure to ask if the bread is fresh).

Where's the Beef?

That%26#39;s a tough one since the type of burger that one prefers can vary from the In and Out basic burger to the familiar McDonald%26#39;s Big Mac or Burger King Whopper... to fancy burgers of specialty burger joints.

Some will point you in the direction of Cheeseburger in Paradise or even Hard Rock Cafe for burgers.... I won%26#39;t.

If you want to try a small out-of-the-way place with surprisingly good food at reasonable prices, try Honokawai Okazuya and Deli. My sons have tried the Maui Onion Burger and the Mushroom Burger. It is located at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Rd. in Honokawai... both burgers were pronounced very good. You may want to give it a try.

My husband and I are very picky as well, but did find a wonderful burger at the general store across from the winery in Maui. They only serve a few items a day ,all fresh made to order on the grill between 11-1 or 2. They raise their own grass fed Maui beef. The hamburger was huge and delicious! We will be heading that way again for lunch when we return in Sept.

Here are some links a couple of our favorite places in Maui. Good food and decent prices. Moose%26#39;s has a $11.95 12oz. earlybird prime rib special. Can%26#39;t beat it if your looking for beef. CJ%26#39;s has a nice menu and the prices are very good. We always see tons of locals there. We do plan on checking out the general store near the winery the next trip. Have heard good things about it. We always like the Hard Rock. They have good food but it%26#39;s always a bit pricey. Had dinner at the Vegas Hard Rock Wednesday. The Maui Hard Rock is much quieter but the food is always been good at any of them we%26#39;ve eaten at.

The burgers at LuLu%26#39;s in Kihei looked great and were massive!! I did not eat one when we were there though... I%26#39;ll tell ya%26#39;, for a great, quality burger, you really can%26#39;t beat Outback!! There%26#39;s one in Kahana and another in Kihei...... CJ%26#39;s is pretty darn good too!!

W0W :) Thank yall so much for the great respones.

Can%26#39;t wait to try them out. This is what we were looking for.

Thanks for the burger tips/ and the steaks. My DH can%26#39;t believe

prime rib in Maui $11.95, we will be there for that!!!

Yall are the greatest!

Aloha!! Lori

Warning! I may sound negative, but from our review of Moose McGillycuddys at lahaina-family-vacation.com/Moose-McGillycud…

';Think of this as a bar that serves food, rather than a restaurant, and you won%26#39;t be disappointed. The %26#39;prime rib special%26#39; was a sad piece of beef, but would probably taste okay if you had knocked down a few drinks. ';

Caveat: since a restaurant recommendation is subjective, our subjectivity shows here. I am sure lots of folks will recommend Moose%26#39;s, and you may have a great time. The Moose also has an inexpensive breakfast, but I have heard there can be a long wait at prime breakfast time.

Just to give folks a chance to critique my critique, I%26#39;ll throw in a vote for Cheeseburger in Paradise for %26#39;plain and simple%26#39; burgers. It%26#39;s crowded, touristy, etc. but has a good ocean view, live music, fun wait service - the experience we want in an inexpensive vacation restaurant.

Lahaina Dad

I was going to say Outback as well.

Yes, indeed. Moose%26#39;s %26amp; Freds are decent portions of (relatively) cheap, below average quality food. Truly a mainland style chain.

Cheeseburger in Paradise is the same exact thing just pretending much harder to be island-style.

These are both really just typical southern California restaurants.

Outback used to be a pretty good buy until they finally noticed that they had neglected to charge the 20%-30% Hawaii price premium on their menu. Up until about a year and a half ago, their prices were the same nationwide across the board. THAT was cool, but no more.

Bottom line, none of these chains serve genuine Haleakala Ranch beef burgers, so all their meat is frozen and flown in.

Where do you get a good burger. I stopped eating red meat about eight years ago so I can%26#39;t say for sure. But the above are definitely places where it is pretty much guaranteed ... yuk :(

For a true ';Cheeseburger in Paradise';, head out on the road to Hana, and have one at the Bay at Tutu%26#39;s.

Or, better yet, stay in Hana a couple nights and grill up your own. Perhaps you could pick up some local beef in Kahalui to bring with you.
