hale steward cottage in Kalihiwai, north shore

Does anyone know anything about the Hale Steward cottage?

My husband and I stayed there in 2004. It%26#39;s a large main house with cottage next door. We rented both, the cottage for us and the house for friends and family. The owner of the house lives in a barn next door and she stops by a lot. The surroundings are beautiful. Lots of trees and great views. There are a lot of gecko%26#39;s and mosquitos, though the gecko%26#39;s were cute and didn%26#39;t bother us. Make sure to bring OFF, citronella candles or whatever mosquito repellant you need. We all left with numerous bites. The neighbors have a sweet dog that likes to run around the property and say hi. The cottage is nice and romantic. It has a full bathroom and also an outdoor shower which is pretty cool. We enjoyed staying there, but because of the mosquitos, we would have been happier in Anini Beach which is only about a mile away. Also, we still haven%26#39;t received our deposit back, though the owner said it would be mailed in October.

I echo the previous posters sentiments. Hale Steward is a lovely property. Unfortunately the proprietor is dishonest. In our experience:

- Cable internet access did not work as promised.

- Washing machine / dryer did not work. We had to drive 30 minutes one way to wash clothes.

- It%26#39;s been four months and our deposit has not been returned despite many emails and phone calls.

The proprietor is a single mother of young twins. She uses this fact to manipulate and as an excuse.

That area is filled with wonderful places to stay. We enjoyed Hale Steward very much but, in hindsight, we would opt for alternative accomodations.
